Honor Sutton poem “Freedom”

Freedom?

by

Honor  Sutton

I am a fly, trapped mercilessly in a spiders web.

Fighting to escape, at my very lowest ebb.

I long to be released, at long last to spread my wings.

Please listen to me.

I yearn to be free!

I am a hen, held prisoner in a battery cage.

I feel no earth beneath my feet, I’ll never reach old age.

I long to be released – to be let to spread my wings.

Please listen to me.

I yearn to be free!

I am a dolphin, slowly dying in a marine zoo!

Do you really think I I’m happy when you say I smile at you?

Deprived of natural waters and the beauty of the sea.

Please listen to me.

I yearn to be free!

I am a child in a camp for refugees.

How I long to be unchained from the horrors facing me.

To have an education, to be with my family.

To run into the sunlight, to escape the poverty.

Please I beg of you, don’t turn away from me.

I live a life of hell in here, I’m desperate to be free!
