National Poetry Day Prize Giving

4 November 2017

Mel Woodend and I had the pleasure of awarding prizes to the National Poetry Day competition winners this afternoon.  This was the first poetry competition we had organised and we were so pleased with the response.  There were so many wonderful entries it was hard to choose the final three, but I do hope that all the entrants keep writing poetry.

Mel, as judge, whittled down the final three by strict adherence to all the criteria laid out as well as content.  She was very impressed with the techniques and devices used.

1 Isla McEwen Poem

2 Maya Ford-Pritchard Poem

3 Honor Sutton Poem

Isla McEwen aged 11 won first place and £25 worth of books. Isla is a pupil at Blessed William Howard.
Honor Sutton aged 10 was a runner up winning £10.00 worth of books. Honor is a pupil at Oakridge Primary School.
Maya Ford-Pritchard was the youngest entrant at just 9 years old. Maya is a pupil at Rowley Park Academy.
